Do you believe that everything happens for a reason, even if you can’t see why at the time? Do you sense that there is divine purpose in the universe? Or is everything happening at random? Or, in another sense, do thoughts create everything that’s taking place?
According to Divine Order, everything is unfolding as it needs to unfold for reasons which you may or may not understand. There is a truth that’s higher and deeper than your everyday mind can fathom. And if you wait long enough, you’ll find out the deeper meanings about why things are happening.
On the other hand, according to the Law of Attraction, thoughts have created the current reality. And, according to A Course in Miracles and many other sacred texts, there just seems to be a reality in what’s happening, but everything is just an illusion, and the only truth is in the One spirit.
Take the Case of Haiti
Haiti is a case in point. Is there a divine purpose being served here? Our creative imaginations will find many “reasons” for the huge challenges taking place, but you may need to wait to find the real meaning of it all. The trick is being able to have compassion and deep feeling while at the same time being able to leap into the state of the witness as you watch it all unfold.
Maybe that’s part of the world transformation that’s taking place – that through these huge challenges, hearts are being opened exponentially. Maybe we’re supposed to join together in closer communities and share our lives in a greater sense. And maybe that’s the real meaning of social networking – that we’re coming together more closely than ever before. Maybe with the challenges on our planet, becoming close with one another is one of the greatest methods of survival that we could imagine.

Dear Marilyn I believe as you do the Haeti is a huge heart opening for the planet we are ushering in the new earth.I felt compassion for the people and was unable to do anything but I send light and love and angels with violet light.
Bless you and all the earth people.
An interesting question. Consider that even before the earthquake that Haiti and the Dominican Republic share the same island. One half is green with forests, vital and well governed and other half is barren and destitute. I don’t think everything happens for a reason but we can and we have responded to the tragedy in Haiti, opening our hearts as well as our wallets. Perhaps if we consider every human being as a shrine of God, then we can combat greed and mismanagement. It is wonderful that so many nations have responded to this crisis. It is social networking on a global scale.
Thanks for these very thoughtful and insightful comments. I appreciate your responses. Blessings to you!
Hi Marilyn,
Yes, I do believe everything happens for a reason, and there is always a lesson to be found in it for each of us; we may not always recognize the reasons immediately, but time and wisdom will make the reasons and lessons clear if we listen to our higher mind wisdom. As for the tragic events in Haiti, I do believe this has not only served to open the hearts of so many around the globe (we are all one, and without each other we cannot survive). I do also believe that those who have incurred this terrible tragedy have come in with the intention of experiencing this lesson for whatever lessons they chose to learn, or sacrifices they chose to come in and make, as well as for helping each of us to open our hearts and unite on a global level. We must all pray for all of the people of Haiti, their families, lost loved ones, as well as generously give whatever we can to help the survivors to get through this horrific event and help them to rebuild their lives and country. Light and blessings to all.
This is beautifully written, Judith. Thank you very much for bringing your light to this very important topic. Blessings to you!
That’s quite a few thoughtful questions, Marilyn. I wish I knew the answers.

To my new friend, Marilyn…
A very interesting question to ponder. I don’t know if this is my creative imagination or not, but I have often thought of Mother Earth as a vital, living entity responding to the emotions, thought forms and upheaval of her children on this planet. Perhaps the extreme planetary disruptions are the reactions of a mother very upset with the hatred, violence, bloodshed and “separation” thinking of her children (not necessarily from any specific geographical areas, but on the planet as a whole).
I’m sure we would both agree, the dominant thoughts in an individual’s subsconscious mind will determine the circumstances of his/her life. So wouldn’t it make sense that the dominant thought on our planet (I think it can be called the “critical mass”) could determine how upset Mother Earth can become and how violently she will react to these negative “frequencies?”
Everything is energy and I can’t help but feel that our individual and collective energies have a profound effect on planetary conditions.
Some of our greatest teachers have shared stories of the power of thought and prayer on weather and agricultual conditions. Native Americans and other cultures have influenced conditions through rituals. (I have had my own minor personal experiences with this). So then, what can unenlightened violent thoughts produce?
Perhaps if the major portion of this planet’s citizens discovered love and unity, these geographical “revolts” would subdue.
If love were to dominate, areas like Haiti would have the proper government and leadership, the people would have more opportunity to prosper, buildings would be constructed according to safety codes and much devastation could be prevented.
Just my two thousand cents…
The other Marilyn
Dear Marilyn,
That’s an answer that’s filled with heart and wisdom. Perhaps we’re headed in the direction of unity consciousness and planetary love as we relase the old thought forms and transform the vibration of the planet. Thank you for writing. I send you very much love.
Love,
Marilyn Too

Absolutly Yes. I believe things happen for a reason. We have gone so far from listening to our inner self and I believe things happen to teach us lessons. It’s not always fun learning some lessons but still needed. It’s not always a direct lesson but I believe we are here to learn. It’s funny, the older I get and the more I learn, the less I feel I know yet I feel more at peace today than I was years ago.
Melissa
Thanks for the wise comment, Melissa. Very good to hear from you.
I often have conversations about this, and I do believe that everything that happens is meant to be. Inevitably, tragedies like Haiti are brought up in that conversation, and I’ve always had difficulty explaining it. I like what you said, that maybe it was meant to bring people together.
That’s a great comment, Adam, and I appreciate it. Thanks very much!
The phrase I use is “meant to be”. However, I realize that overall, things work out positively for me in the long run. So, if I struggle, I say it’s meant to be, because it leads to better things.
But I can see how it would be hard to tell someone who has a lot of hardship in their life that the events are meant to be.
I love your philosophy, Dennis. If you struggle, it’s meant to be because it leads to better things. That’s beautiful and a really great frame of mind. You can tell the same thing to people with a lot of hardship – that something in them is being molded and shaped into something that’s great. Good way to look at it all. Thanks for your comment.
I struggle with this one. I like to think that we have control over everything that happens to us. That way, when good or bad things happen, it is because of the choices we made.
Hi Dennis,
This is a very controversial topic, and there are people on both sides of the issue. Some believe that we create everything. Others believe that destiny determines all outcomes. Some people like to put themselves somewhere in the middle of the two. Some say that we have control over our responses to what happens to us. It’s a huge issue. You just have to choose what feels right to you.
Thanks for writing.
I live by the Serenity Prayer. Whether things are meant to be or I can make a difference, I just have to be comfortable with the outcome.
Very interesting topic, and interesting discussion.
That’s a beautiful philosophy, Scott. It guarantees your equanimity no matter what takes place. Thanks for writing.
I actually believe everything happens for a reason But sometimes, those reason teaches us lessons to not make wrong decisions again for that particular “everything” won’t happen again.
Yes, I feel that all experiences are opportunities to learn – especially to learn to make good decisions. Thanks for your email, Daisy.

Thank you, Marlina. You make a very important point – that we choose to come into this world with specific and powerful intentions and lessons to learn. Thanks for adding this dimension to the dialogue.

Yes, some people feel we create everything with our thoughts, and others believe that everything is already planned. The discussion has gone on throughout the ages. Thanks for writing!
I think everything happens for a reason, good or bad.. Let just hope it will be for the better..
Thanks for your input, Cynthia. I hope so too!
Yes Marilyn, yes yes yes! In my own life I have discovered this to be profoundly true, and presently in the forefront of my contemplations. With each day that passes I see that everything is so divinely intertwined and has purpose with impacts. Some we see and some we will never see or understand. From a smile to a tear. From a death to a disaster. Complexity to the max! I truly do believe that all things happen for a reason. However, I don’t think that I should just sit back and let things happen. I am a part of all that is, and must assume my place in that equation. To learn, love, and react as I strive each day to be worthy to allow the light to pass through me. I love your question! Yes. I do believe all things happen for a reason. Just as your thoughts and questions have aligned my thoughts and heart today for whatever is to unfold. Thankyou
Beautiful, Natalie. I posted it on my Facebook page, though I had to edit your thoughtful words a bit. Thanks very much and love to you!
I believe that everything happens for a reason, the only thing we do not know is how to fathom the reason of the infinite. god made everything for a reason, we are given the freewill to change our insight on it but things are really meant to happen. As God says ” your thoughts are not my thoughts and your ways are not my ways” let us live it to god why he allow things to happen in our life.
Well said, Bianca. Thanks for your loving comment.

Great post. I love “everything is so divinely intertwined.” Wonderful!
Sometimes God do some things to wake us up on our comfort zone, some things happen for a greater reason and purpose. As God says “your thoughts are not my thoughts and your ways are not your ways” so let us left some things to him, we don’t need to force ourselves understand things which we cannot fathom.
Very thoughtful comment! Thank you for that. Blessings to you!
